Our Guiding Light
Hikari means light in Japanese, and light, at its best, doesn't overwhelm.
It softens. It restores.
Discover Hikari House, Joshua Tree’s boutique off-grid restorative retreat, set on five private acres of untouched Mojave Desert. Rooted in wabi-sabi philosophy and sustainable living, this 3-bedroom, 2-bathroom luxury vacation rental blends timeless design with modern comfort, thoughtful luxuries, restorative amenities, and seamless indoor-outdoor living, all curated for rest, renewal,
and reconnection.
A Refuge & A Muse
Designed for guests who value the craft in the details and the gift of stillness, Hikari House is both a refuge and a muse, where the elegance of modern architecture meets the timeless poetry of the desert. This land holds something our modern world too often forgets: stillness is not empty. It is full of everything we are usually too busy to notice.
Off-Grid, Without Compromise
Powered by the desert sun through a robust solar and battery system, Hikari House pairs sustainable living with modern ease while naturally blending to its surroundings. Expansive glass and our signature 20-foot bifold opening dissolve the boundary between indoors and out, revealing 360° sight lines that frame the landscape like living art. Outside, our heatable pool rests beneath an endless desert sky, while rescued ancient olive trees create the backdrop for long, unhurried meals outdoors. Copper Mountain commands the horizon in one direction, while Joshua Tree’s ancient boulders rise in the other. Set quietly between them, Hikari House becomes part of the landscape itself, a statement shaped by space, light, and otherworldly stillness.
Modern Comfort x Timeless Design
Inside, warm tactile finishes and sun-washed tones echo the palette and presence of the surrounding desert. Every detail has been intentionally chosen, from artisan-crafted accents and elevated everyday essentials to design-forward furnishings selected for comfort, beauty, and function.
Outside, Shou Sugi Ban wraps the home like sun-kissed armor—dramatic, enduring, and reflective of the desert’s raw character. Throughout the house, thoughtful luxuries and restorative amenities are woven naturally into the experience, creating a serene, curated space for rest, reflection, and reconnection.
Balance Is Intentional
At Hikari House, you’ll find everything you need for an elevated stay, while remaining free from overwhelming, amenity-driven distractions that pull attention away from what matters most. Here, stillness takes center stage. Slow down. Settle in. Experience the art of restorative living.
This is not a copy-and-paste stay.

KNOW BEFORE YOU GO
Hikari House is true high desert, so you may occasionally see desert wildlife (insects, small lizards, spiders, scorpions, and, more rarely, snakes). We routinely work with a professional pest control company, however living close to nature means nature tends to remain close. So we recommend closed-toe shoes outdoors, and extra care around covered areas like rocks and patio furniture.
The property is not childproofed and may include hazards (pool, patios, steps, uneven or raised surfaces, and hanging chairs with a drop behind them). If you have children or babies, never leave them unattended as this can result in children drowning or being seriously injured if not supervised.
Hikari House is proud to be fully off-grid, designed to minimize our footprint and live in harmony with the desert landscape. The home is powered by a high-capacity solar system with three large batteries, and an additional propane backup generator to recharge the system when needed. To help conserve energy and reduce generator use, we kindly ask guests to be mindful of large appliance use after sunset.
Please be kind to the home and its contents. All items were thoughtfully sourced to curate a unique space for all and are not easy to replace. We ask that you treat everything with the same care you would in your own space, and that all house items remain at Hikari House for future guests to enjoy.
Heating the pool is available for an additional fee of $150 per day. Please notify your host in advance if you’d like to use the pool as it takes approximately 4 hours to fully heat.
Absolutely No Professional Shoots Allowed Without Authorization. Please contact us at Hikarihousejt@gmail.com about any shoot inquiries.
