Powered by the desert sun through a robust solar and battery system, Hikari House was designed for true off-grid living without sacrificing modern comfort. A private well paired with a four-stage whole-house water filtration system provides clean, filtered water throughout the home, while a professional-grade backup generator adds another layer of resilience, allowing the property to operate independently of municipal infrastructure. Together, these systems create a self-sufficient retreat designed to live more lightly and intentionally within its desert surroundings. Expansive glass and our signature 20-foot bifold opening dissolve the boundary between indoors and out, revealing 360° sight lines that frame the landscape like living art. Outside, our heatable pool rests beneath an endless desert sky, while rescued ancient olive trees create the backdrop for long, unhurried meals outdoors. Copper Mountain commands the horizon in one direction, while Joshua Tree’s ancient boulders rise in the other. Set quietly between them, Hikari House becomes part of the landscape itself—a retreat shaped by space, light, self-sufficiency, and otherworldly stillness.

KNOW BEFORE YOU GO
Hikari House is true high desert, so you may occasionally see desert wildlife (insects, small lizards, spiders, scorpions, and, more rarely, snakes). We routinely work with a professional pest control company, but living close to nature means nature stays close too. We recommend closed-toe shoes outdoors and extra care around covered areas like rocks and patio furniture.
This property is not childproofed. Hazards may include the pool, patios, steps, uneven or raised surfaces, and hanging chairs with a drop behind them. If you're traveling with children, please supervise them closely at all times, unsupervised children near these features risk serious injury or drowning.
Hikari House is proud to be fully off-grid, designed to minimize our footprint and live in harmony with the desert landscape. The home runs on a high-capacity solar system with three large batteries, backed up by a propane generator when needed. To help conserve energy, we kindly ask guests to be mindful of large appliance use after sunset.
Please treat the home and its contents with care. All items were thoughtfully sourced to curate a unique space for all and are not easy to replace. We ask that you treat everything with the same care you would in your own home, and that all house items remain at Hikari House for future guests to enjoy.
Heating the pool is available for an additional fee of $150 per day. Please notify your host in advance if you’d like to use the pool as it takes approximately 4+ hours to fully heat.
