Hikari House is ideally situated between Joshua Tree National Park’s two main entrances, making it easy to explore the park from either direction. Depending on traffic and conditions, both entrances are approximately a 10–15 minute drive from the house.

While either entrance is convenient, we especially recommend the North Entrance near Twentynine Palms. It’s typically the quieter and easier way into the park, with little to no traffic compared with the more heavily traveled West Entrance near Joshua Tree Village. From there, you can enjoy a beautiful drive through the park and easily connect with many of its most iconic landscapes, trails, and viewpoints.

Being positioned between the entrances also gives you flexibility when planning your day, you can enter through one side, explore the park at your own pace, and loop back out another way without having to retrace your route. It’s one of our favorite advantages of Hikari House’s location and makes spontaneous sunrise drives, afternoon hikes, and sunset excursions especially easy.

Our off-grid system is designed to feel seamless, so for most guests, staying at Hikari House feels just like staying in a conventional home. Lights, outlets, hot water, heating and cooling, Wi-Fi, and all the everyday comforts you expect work as usual. We have ample water storage, solar power, battery capacity, and backup power to comfortably support your stay.

The only thing we ask is that guests use the washer and dryer during peak daylight hours, when the solar system is producing the most energy, and avoid running them overnight.

Because Hikari House is powered by an off-grid solar and battery system, you may occasionally hear a soft hum from the inverter or backup generator, particularly when the batteries are charging or the home is experiencing higher energy demand. On rare occasions, you may also notice a very brief light flicker at night when a larger electrical load, such as the HVAC system, cycles on. These are normal characteristics of an off-grid home and should not interfere with your comfort or enjoyment of the property.

Every room is outfitted with essentials for comfort and calm, think plush organic queen beds and organic silky bamboo bedding, filtered water, AC and heating, luxe bath amenities from Le Labo, and more. All rooms feature fully private blackout curtains with outdoor access.

We welcome your dogs! There is a $100 per dog per stay fee, limit of 2 dogs maximum. Please note on your reservation if you are bringing dog(s) and how many, and we will adjust the price accordingly. There is an unauthorized pet fee of $1000. Please use the provided dog sheets before allowing your dogs on any furniture. Cats and other pets are not allowed.

Yes, there is an option to heat the pool for an additional fee of $150 per night. Because heating takes approximately 4+ hours to reach temperature, please share in advance which days you would like pool heat and we will have it ready for you.
